The unidentified officer was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with minor injuries following the 4:18 p.m. crash on the northbound Route 17 loop, Acting Detective Sgt. Vincent Auteri said.

The 58-year-old North Bergen driver of the Honda Accord that hit his police vehicle was treated at the scene and released, he said.

"It is believed that [he] had trouble negotiating the curve in the roadway as a result of the poor conditions from the inclement weather," he said.

The Accord was towed from the scene.

The driver received summonses for careless driving and violating New Jersey's "Move Over" law by not allowing a lane between his car and a stopped emergency vehicle, Auteri said.
